• Held meetings on the second Thursday of every other month. Received reports from Regina school board members, Patrice Carroll, John Gilroy and Rick Larew, Youth Director, Patti McTaggart and Adult Formation Director, Dan Teets.
• Participation in religious education included 91 students in the Tri-Parish Religious Education program,, 42 in the North Corridor program and 11 in the St. Thomas More program. 190 students attended Regina Elementary and 174 attended Regina Junior & Senior High School.
• Commission representatives served on St. Mary?s Parish Council, Evangelization & Stewardship Committee, and the city-wide Faith Formation Commission.
• Developed and communicated correspondence to Regina parents encouraging active stewardship.
• Conducted the annual Regina Board of Education election.
• Conducted the annual performance evaluations for the Coordinator of Youth Ministry and the Director Adult Formation. Both showed exemplary performance of their duties.
• Held monthly sacramental preparation meetings for Baptism, Reconciliation and First Eucharist (Sr. Agnes).

?       Invited youth to help with the Back-to-School Clothing Drive in August.

?       Invited and involved youth in the adult choir and the contemporary choir. Coordinated an evening of rosary-making in October.

Adult Formation Highlights: Dan Teets, Director

 

• Offered a 6-week study of the Passion account from Matthew's Gospel during Lent 2005.
• Sponsored a viewing and discussion of Mel Gibson's film ?The Passion of the Christ? offered on the Saturday of Passion Sunday weekend in 2005.
• Provided a 4-week study of Pope John Paul II's Encyclical Letter on the Eucharist during The Year of the Eucharist. This study began with a session on the history of the papacy since Vatican I.
• Participated in city-wide Christian Experience Weekend in February.
• Began planning 2006 CEWs for women (March 24-26) and men

????? (March 31-April 2).

• Made many resources for adult faith formation available in the parish library which is open on Sunday mornings and on evenings when adult enrichment opportunities are being offered in the church hall.
• The Catholic initiation process for adults included the following:

?     Catechetical sessions were offered two times during year (on Tuesday evenings from Mardi Gras through Corpus Christi Sunday and again on Sunday mornings from late August through mid December) for those wishing to become Catholic, for adult Confirmation candidates and catechumens.

?     A Morning of Reflection was held in the spring and the fall for converts and adult Confirmation candidates with the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation the day before they were received into the Catholic church and/or confirmed.

?     The Rites of Initiation for converts and adult candidates for Confirmation and/or First Holy Communion were celebrated on and Pentecost Sunday in the spring and Christ the King Sunday in the fall.

?     Catechumens (adults preparing for Baptism) were dismissed from Mass for Breaking Open the Word from Christ the King weekend through Palm Sunday with the Rites of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist) celebrated during the Easter Vigil.

• Sponsored the annual chili supper with the Iowa women's Hawkeye basketball team.
• Established ?Mary's Closet? to distribute unused medical supplies to those in need.

• Installed a new irrigation systems for flowers and plants (donated by Dolores Kempf).
• Continued maintenance of church brick and mortar (tuckpointing).
• Continued maintenance and repair of church stained glass windows.
• Refinished and polished all the church pews (Jana Ozzello and her mother).

• Allocated $41,731.27 (5% of parish income) to local, national, and global needs.
• Provided shelter to the homeless in our parish hall 3 weeks during the winter months.
• Coordinated Free Lunch at the Wesley Center on the third Friday of each month.
• Helped to recruit for the Compeer Program, which matches volunteers to persons with mental illness.
• Helped with the annual Back to School Clothing Drive and Winterwear Distribution.
• Represented the parish on the Consultation of Religious Communities (Irvin Pfab).
• Supported the Ecumenical Minority Scholarship Program.
• Supported the Sandals for Iraq project.
• Raised $20,000 for the Iowa City Food Pantry (monthly envelopes in packets).

St. Anthony?s Bread serves as a means for our parishioners and other donors to give assistance to the poor in Johnson County, usually for emergency needs.?

 

St. Anthony?s Bread had a total income of $45, 279.96 in 2005. We spent $41,027.57, including $3,250 for Christmas assistance. We served 447 different individuals or families, not including those served through Project Holiday. Our expenses were $282.48 for stamps and printing.

 

Evangelization and Stewardship Committee: ?

• Studied the American bishops? pastoral letters on evangelization and stewardship.
• Prepared ?Welcome to the Iowa City Catholic Parishes? brochure and made them available to hotels, motels, and real estate offices.
• Sponsored the Catholics Returning Home Program ? five gatherings were held in different locations for people seeking information to return to the church.
• Provided small group faith sharing ? citywide 16 groups (many crossing parish lines) and 14 families met weekly during Lent to reflect on and pray with the Sunday readings. 32 people participated from St. Mary?s.
• Organized a young adult group known as ICYC, (Iowa City Young Catholics) which meets on the first and third Monday evening of each month.
