REST IN PEACE

We pray for the repose of the souls of Mike Faust, brother of Betty Alberhasky; and Janice Grimm, sister of Mike Scherrer, who recently passed away.

May they be welcomed into everlasting life!

Christmas Flower Memorials

We are grateful for the gift of Christmas flowers given in memory of:

Tom & Bessie Slattoky

Berniece Smothers

THANK  YOU!

A BIG thank you to the following ladies of the parish who helped with the laundering and ironing of the Eucharist linens for the months of October, November and December, 2005!

Nina Bahl, Becky Krob, Anna Stranieri,

Torie Hefel, Judy Obr and Kim Callaghan.

God Bless!

Just a Reminder…

If you need to send a payment to St. Mary's Annual Diocesan Appeal, please send it to the office at

302 East Jefferson St., Iowa City, or drop it in the

collection basket at Mass. If you have not made a pledge, it is not too late! Envelopes are located in the back of the church.

What are you buying today?

Scrip is easy fundraising. Families earn money for St. Mary's and Regina through purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, gas, even vacations can be purchased with Scrip. An organization of 250 families spends about one million dollars per year on food, clothing, gas, gifts and entertainment. If just 250 St. Mary's families used scrip for these purchases, we could raise as much as $40,000 per year for our church-without anything extra! Every time you use Scrip, you raise money for St. Mary's and

Regina.

Sacrament of Baptism

Next weekend, we will be celebrating the Sacrament of Baptism at all of the Masses. You will probably recognize many of the families as they will be celebrating with the community with whom they regularly worship. It reminds us of our baptismal call to support each other on our journey of faith.

Holy Hour for Vocations

St. Mary's Holy Hour for Vocations will be

Thursday, January 5th at 7 PM in the church.
Please join us.

OTHER HAPPENINGS:

The Mercy Hospital Bereavement

Support Program will meet each Wednesday beginning January 4th, 2006. The Program is eight weeks long and meets at 9:30 AM in the First Floor Conference Room of Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. The Program welcomes any adult grieving a loss or the death of a loved one. The facilitator of the Program is Chaplain Nora Welter, PBVM. The Program offers information about the grieving process and provides opportunities for people to share their thoughts and feelings in an understanding environment. Persons will benefit by experiencing renewed energy and purpose in life. For information or to register, call Mercy On Call at 358-2767.

Natural Family Planning Course

Come learn the highly effective cross-checking sympto-thermal method of natural family planning. Gain knowledge that your grandmother never knew about the signs of natural fertility and infertility of a woman's body. Not to be confused with the outdated rhythm method, this class will be taught by a certified teaching couple of the Couple to Couple League. This four-class series begins Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 6:30 PM at Mercy in Iowa City. Please contact Mercy On Call for information, or to register for classes, at

358-2767.

A Thought: On the first day of a New Year it is

important to reflect on all the ways in which the Lord has blessed you. Resolve this year to spend less time chasing after fame, wealth, or power and more time being grateful for the gifts God has given you.

Choose Life Prayer - As a new year begins, may we renew our commitment to defend the sanctity of all human life, born and unborn.

Vocation View - Yours may not be THE Holy Family, but you are still a holy family. Share an expression of gratitude for the gift of your family today.
