Catholic Schools Week

We wish to thank all of the Regina students and families who helped with our Catholic Schools Week liturgies. Thanks also to the Regina Choir and Brian Mueller for singing so beautifully at the 11 AM Mass.

Catholic Messenger

February is Catholic Press Month.

The time has come to subscribe to our own diocesan newspaper, The Catholic Messenger. Bishop

William Franklin, is asking that every household in every parish of the diocese receive this weekly

publication. The cost is $25 a year or just 48 cents per week.

If you would like to receive the Messenger but cannot afford the $25- give whatever you can. The parish will subsidize your subscription.

In case you are not familiar with the Messenger, or have not seen it in a while, some extra copies are available in the main vestibule of the church.

The Messenger is a great way to be informed about what is happening in the church- globally, nationally, and locally. There are also articles and columns about spirituality, family life, and growing up as a teenager in the church. There's usually something for just about everyone in the Messenger.

Envelopes for the Messenger are included in your monthly packets. If you would please return your

envelopes as soon as possible, we would appreciate it.

A Call to the Priesthood

The Church is in great need of dedicated, capable, and holy priests. If you know a young man who, in your opinion, would make a good priest, please send his name and address to Fr. Ken.

Many priests today (including Fr. Ken) say that they first thought about a vocation to the priesthood after someone suggested it to them. God may be using you to extend His call to a future priest. Please give this your serious thought and prayerful consideration.

CEW Renewal

The Monthly CEW Renewal will be held at St. Mary's Parish Hall following the 5:10 Mass on

Saturday, Feb. 11th. This is an informal social

gathering. Snacks and beverages are provided and families are welcome.

Inquiry Sessions

Inquiry Sessions for adults wanting to learn more about the Catholic faith will be held on Tuesday, February 21st and Thursday, February 23rd from 7-8 PM in the parish hall. We will also have a session on Sunday, February 19th from 11AM to noon in the rectory.

Inquiry Sessions are for those baptized in another

Christian faith, for the unbaptized, and for adult

Catholics who were never confirmed. It is an informal opportunity to find out more about the Adult Initiation process at St. Mary's. Each session is the same, so you only need to attend one session. "Come and see!"

Young Married and Engaged Catholic Adults

Would you like to get together with other couples,

support each other through life events, and pray

together? We invite you to join us on Sunday, March 5th, at 5 PM in St. Mary's parish hall. We will do introductions and then eat at a restaurant of the group's choice. For more information please contact Jason and Jennifer at 341-8566 or email them at jasonandjenniferrantk@yahoo.com.

REGINA HAPPENINGS

THANKS TO ALL!

Regina would like to thank everyone who donated to the "Regina Sunday" collection. The school is certainly blessed to have the support they receive from the Catholic community in Iowa City. Your generosity is overwhelming. The school would also like to thank all of the pastors for all of the support they give. Without their support and guidance, Regina would not be as successful. Please remember, you can return you Regina Sunday envelope at any time.

Cub Scout Pancake Breakfast

Regina Cub Scout Pack 210 is hosting a pancake

breakfast on February 5th from 7:30 AM to noon at

Regina.  We will be serving "all you can eat" pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice, and coffee for $5 per adult and $3 for children 12 and under. The scouts and their families will be preparing the meal. This is Pack 210's only fundraiser of the year and the proceeds help defer the cost of scouting for each person. It is our goal to make enough money to make scouting free for the year.

Regina Booster Club Fish Fry

Come and enjoy the Annual Booster Club Fish Fry at Regina Education Center beginning February 24th through April 14th from 5-8 PM. This year we will be serving in the new and expanded cafeteria! Parking will be located in the lot behind the school, which is closer to the back door of the building. Shrimp or salmon dinners will be $9 and cod or catfish dinners will be $8. To go orders may be called in after 4:30 PM to 338-5436.

OTHER HAPPENINGS…

Academic Mentoring Program- As part of National Mentoring Month, the Iowa City Community School District's Academic Mentoring Program (AMP) is looking for community members who may be interested in mentoring a student. The program matches volunteer mentors with students grade 4-8, who would benefit from one-on-one interaction with a caring adult. A Thought: Can you imagine the joy and gratitude that filled Simon's mother-in-law as she waited the upon the Lord after He had cured her? The Lord has done great things for each of us. Do we get up and wait on Him in gratitude? Or do we take His blessings without ever giving back?

Choose Life Prayer - We pray that all those who find life burdensome may be helped to believe in the sanctity and importance of each human life.

Vocation View - Healing, reconciling, and proclaiming good news: the tasks of Jesus, the tasks of the church. Does God call you to be a healer, reconciler, and proclaimer of the good news?
