First Sunday of Lent

REST IN PEACE

We pray for the repose of the souls of Teri Kalkman, sister of Donna Sullivan; Myrtle Schaffer, grandmother of Sandi Schaffer; Carol Morrow, sister of Tom Seaton; Gretchen Hess, sister of Howard Villhauer; Bill Potter, husband of Clara Potter; and Fr. John Boyle.

May they be welcomed into everlasting life!

Rite of Election

The First Sunday of Lent is the time when Catechumens (those preparing for Baptism on Holy Saturday) travel to the Cathedral for the Rite of Election. The Catechumens are recognized by the Bishop and chosen (elected) by him for the Easter sacraments. Thereafter, they are no longer called Catechumens, but the Elect. Today, during the 9:30 AM Mass, the Catechumens from St. Mary's will sign their names in the Book of the Elect prior to being sent forth to the Cathedral celebration. May our prayers be with them on their journey to Easter.

Stations of the Cross

During the Lenten season, St. Mary's has Stations of the Cross and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament every Friday evening at 6 PM in the church. This is a great opportunity to reflect on Jesus' sacrificial love for us all.

Taize Prayer

Taize Prayer, a chant form of prayer and scripture, is held in the church at 5 PM each Sunday evening during Lent. Everyone is invited.

WELCOME HOME!

A Welcome Home session will be this Sunday evening at 7 PM in the rectory. This will primarily be a time for listening with the opportunity to ask questions. Anyone who has been away from the church and is thinking about returning is invited.

A Thought: "The Spirit drove Jesus out into the desert and he remained there for forty days, tempted by Satan." Now is the time for us to think about what things may tempt us. Do material possessions or time-consuming activities tempt us and prevent us from sharing time, talent, and treasure with God?

Choose Life Prayer - We pray that those tempted by abortion remember that Our Savior and His mother also walked the path of suffering.

Vocation View - This is the time of fulfillment. The reign of God is at hand. Let us reform our lives and believe in the Good News. (Mark 1:12-15)
