REST IN PEACE
We pray for the repose of the soul of Lillian Rohret, sister of Kay O'Brien.
May she be welcomed into everlasting life!
SUMMER BIBLE SCHOOL
Once again, our Summer Bible School was a great success! This occurred because of the 80+ adult and youth volunteers who ministered to nearly 230 students.
Despite the heat, we came together as a community of faith to listen to the Word, pray together, and reach out in service - locally, nationally, and globally. We look forward to coming together next year.
Summer Scrip News
Have you seen a good movie lately? VIP tickets for any Iowa City cinema can be purchased through St. Mary's. These tickets are valid through December 31st, 2009! Earn 10% for the church when you buy these tickets in advance at our Scrip table. They make great gift items or treat yourself to a night out. And don't forget to check out the list of restaurants participating in the program. Make a date for dinner and a movie!
Thus far, we have exceeded $31,000 in sales and earned over $4,100 in rebates. If you are buying Scrip certificates, thank you. Please tell your friends how the program works. If you have not tried Scrip, stop by the table after Mass. Volunteers will be glad to explain the process. Then get on board the Scrip bandwagon!
CONGRATULATIONS!
Congratulations to Sr. Agnes who celebrated 49 years of religious life this week!

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP
Jesus reminds us in today's Gospel that working for perishable food - symbolic of possessions in the world - will not gain us eternal life.
Choose Life Prayer - We pray for all whose lives have been touched by abortion that they may follow the Light of Christ to forgiveness and healing.
Vocation View - If we trust Jesus' promise to feed us and quench our thirst we can fearlessly give our lives in his service. |
