REST IN PEACE
We pray for the repose of the souls of Dan Haaf,
husband of Mary; Francis Chartier, husband of
Cecile; Martin Nolan, brother of Anita Keifer; Patricia O’Leary Brock, sister of Mary Soukup and aunt of Dawn Ekcrich; and Dean Rittenmeyer, brother of Adran, Kenneth and Ted Rittenmeyer.
May they be welcomed into everlasting life!
Reach, Touch, Care, Share
In June and July, St. Anthony's Bread paid a portion of rent for 29 different households; energy bills for 24; and water bills for 14. In addition to our monthly commitments, we helped purchase a bed for a disabled person, paid a portion of a substance abuse evaluation and made partial payment toward tuition for a CPR class (so a person could begin work in a nursing home). We assisted two with prescriptions, four with transportation and two with lodging. We helped a homeless man purchase a tent and sleeping bag after his were stolen. We thank you for your generous and faithful support of our mission.
Inquiry Sessions
Inquiry sessions for adults wishing to find out more about the Catholic Faith will be held on Tuesday, August 22nd or 24th from 7-8 PM in the parish hall. These sessions are for those seeking to join the Catholic Church, for Catholic adults who are not yet confirmed, or anyone who wishes to find out more about the Catholic faith. Each session is the same, so you only need to participate in one.

FROM BISHOP FRANKLIN
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Hurricane Katrina was the worst natural disaster in our nation's history and brought indescribable
devastation to the Archdiocese of New Orleans and the Diocese of Biloxi. Last year, in the days and weeks following the storm, you reached out with prayerful support, encouragement and financial gifts for humanitarian needs through a special emergency collection.
The ongoing needs for diocesan recovery from the catastrophic devastation remain staggering and extremely urgent. There is tremendous loss in an area where the Catholic Church has a significant presence and where the ability of local parishioners to help with the recovery is limited due to their own personal challenges. Therefore, at the USCCB June General Assembly, the bishops of the United States unanimously approved a second national collection for those two dioceses which will be held the weekend of August 26-27, 2006.
While the first collection was primarily designated to assist individuals rebuild their lives, this collection will assist in the financing of ministry and the rebuilding/repairing of parishes, schools and other buildings where the ministries of the Church are offered to assist people.
Once again, I thank you for your great generosity in helping the people of these dioceses as they continue the urgent struggle to rebuild and recover their hope and their lives.
Sincerely, in the peace and joy of Christ,
(Most Rev.) Wm. E. Franklin
Bishop of Davenport

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP
Paul, in his Letter to the Ephesians, provides instructions on how to be good stewards of our daily lives - conducting ourselves properly is a key element.
Choose Life Prayer - We pray for all political leaders, that they may seek God's wisdom in order to build a culture of life.
Vocation View - Give thanks to God the Father always and for everything in the name of the Lord Jesus. What gifts have you received? How does God ask you to use them? |
